We're updating these terms
These Terms of Service describe how Civitus works today. A few sections, including contribution-related terms, are being refined in the coming weeks. What is written below applies now. A full attorney review remains scheduled as a separate step before we treat this document as final legal copy.
Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026
1. What Civitus Is
Civitus is a civic participation platform that enables verified U.S. citizens to vote on real legislation and track how their elected representatives respond to the citizen mandate. Civitus is not a government agency and has no authority to compel any representative's vote. Nothing on this platform constitutes legal, financial, or political advice.
2. Eligibility
- You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, 18 years of age or older, to vote on legislation.
- You may only create one account per person. Duplicate accounts are prohibited.
3. Contributions
Contribution-related terms are being updated to match the current product and will be published in the coming weeks. Until then, Civitus does not solicit PAC contributions through these Terms.
4. Platform Mandate
Representatives who choose to participate in the Civitus mandate agree to vote in accordance with the verified citizen vote on legislation in their jurisdiction. Civitus publishes compliance scores based on publicly available congressional and state voting records. Compliance scores are factual records derived from public data and are protected speech.
5. Prohibited Conduct
You may not:
- Create multiple accounts or vote multiple times on the same legislation.
- Submit false identity or address information to obtain verification.
- Engage in coordinated inauthentic behavior to artificially inflate vote counts.
- Attempt to access, modify, or interfere with any other user's account or data.
- Use automated means (bots, scripts) to vote, post, or interact with the platform.
6. Content You Post
By posting draft legislation, poll questions, or comments on the platform, you grant Civitus a non-exclusive license to display that content. You are responsible for ensuring your content does not violate any laws or third-party rights. Civitus reserves the right to remove content that violates these terms.
7. Disclaimer
The platform is provided "as is." Civitus makes no warranties about the accuracy of bill summaries, compliance scores, or AI-generated content. Bill summaries are generated by artificial intelligence and may contain errors, always refer to primary sources for legal accuracy.
8. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association.
